Clutch Emergency for GOTO:Racing, SSP Answers the Call

One problem with having an engine as amazing as the one under the hood of the Dell™ Equallogic GT-R, is that it is very easy to make huge amounts of horsepower. The weekend before Super Lap Battle, HB Speed's Jon Drenas and COBB Tuning's Tim Bailey, tuned the GOTO:Racing GT-R to make a whopping 787whp! Not noticing a hint of clutch slip to this point, GOTO:Racing had not thought it necessary to upgrade the clutches of their R35 racecar even giving this dramatic increase in power.

When the car went out for its first test session for Super Lap, Brian reported major clutch slip, making the car almost undriveable. GOTO:Racing limped through Super Lap and decided something had to be done before the Redline Time Attack weekend coming up. The call was made to South Side Performance. After a brief discussion with Kris from SSP, GOTO:Racing had its newest sponsor. Kris very generously overnighted their upgraded clutch packs to HB Speed to be installed the day after Super Lap. Pulling apart a transmission that no GOTO:Racing tech had experience with was not something that the team planned for. But the risk was worth making sure the team would be as competitive as possible for the upcoming event at Auto Club Speedway.

The clutch install went very smoothly, and after a quick break-in, the SSP clutches were put to the test and passed with flying colors. "I am so excited and relieved that SSP stepped up in such a big way for us this week, they really saved our event," commented Brian Lock.
