Brian Lock drove the COBB Tuning GT-R to the overall win at round 2 of Redline Time Attack held at New Jersey Motorsports Park. With a lap time of 1:06.7 Brian not only took the overall win in the Modified class but also was the fastest car on track taking the overall win for the entire event.
This was a storybook ending for the COBB Tuning GT-R since they left the track in Buttowillow with a blown motor and less then a week before they had to leave for New Jersey. In the Super Session at Buttonwillow on Brian Lock got to the end of the straight away on the final lap only to hear a deafening noise and feel rapid deceleration. The crew discovered shortly after that the motor had reached it's mechanical limit at around 1000 crank HP and punched a rod through the side of the block. The next day a motor out of a wrecked car was found and Dustin Harris from COBB Surgeline and Billy Brooks from COBB Tuning set out to make a working motor out of the two injured motors they had. Four days, a case of Red Bull, and 5 boxes of brake clean later the GT-R started up at 3 am on Friday morning. Just over 24 hours later the car was in the trailer making the long haul across the US.
Arriving at New Jersey Motorsports Park exhausted from their flights the crew battled 40 mph winds to set up the paddock and work late into the night prepping the car for the coming event. Though the start was rough the first day was a great success with engine performing flawlessly and the crew breathed a sigh of relief. Brian turned a lap of 1:06.7 which was the fast time of any car on track during practice. Sunday morning everyone woke up with great hopes for the day but they were quickly dashed when the car was unable to complete more the one hot lap without going into limp mode. As the day went on the crew scoured the car for potential causes, though a few were found and fixed the car still went into limp mode progressively
faster, not even finishing one hot lap in the first time session. With every head put together the crew gave it one last shot for the second timed session. Brian rolled out to the grid and everyone gave the car one last pat for good luck in hopes it would make it. As the crew sat anxiously on pit wall they listen to the distinct sound of the GT-R echo through the paddock. In just over a minute the GT-R came around the last corner onto the straight away and hope was felt once again that their was a chance it would make it. The excitement grew as the sounds started circling the track, the crew jumped and cheered as Brian drove the GT-R across the start finish line posting his first time for the day. Not yet satisfied Brian pushed the car progressively harder and posted a final lap time of 1:06.7. Feeling the energy from win Brian took the COBB Tuning GT-R out for the Super Session and took the overall win, running a surprising 5 laps with no issues.
The COBB Motorsports crew finishes their second event and despite numerous issues takes home another overall Modified Class win and for the first time in Redline Time Attack history Brian Lock drove the GT-R Modified class car to the Overall win for all four classes.
